04 May HOFFA, HALL REMEMBER FORMER REP. OBERSTAR AS FRIEND OF WORKERS
(WASHINGTON) –The following is a statement from Teamsters General President James P. Hoffa and Teamsters Secretary Treasurer Ken Hall on the passing of former Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.), who previously served as chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure:
“Jim Oberstar worked tirelessly during his 36 years in the House for America’s workers,” President Hoffa said. “His work on transportation safety was unparalleled, standing up for all transportation workers – rail, airline and trucking – and those who use the nation’s highways. His decades in Congress were ones of great purpose and I extend my condolences to Jim’s family and all those touched by his passing.”
“Jim Oberstar stood up to Fed Ex when it repeatedly tried to shortchange its workforce and gain an advantage over the rest of the package delivery sector under the reauthorization of FAA,” Secretary Treasurer Hall said. “He was a man of integrity who will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.”
